At Therapy Dogs Queensland, our philosophy is centred around the belief that the unconditional love and companionship of therapy animals can have a profound impact on the well-being and happiness of individuals. We understand the power of the human-animal bond and strive to harness it to bring comfort, joy, and healing to those in need. Our therapy dogs are carefully trained and certified to provide emotional support, alleviate stress, and promote a sense of connection and belonging. We believe in the transformative power of wagging tails, wet noses, and gentle cuddles, and we are dedicated to unleashing happiness and healing, one wag at a time.
Bec has undergone specialised training and certification in the area of animal assisted therapy to understand the intricacies of the connection between people and dogs and how to effectively incorporate dogs into therapeutic interventions. Bec has a deep understanding of animal behaviour, psychology, and welfare, ensuring the well-being and safety of both the animals and the clients she works with. Additionally, she has honed her skills in assessing client needs, developing treatment plans, and implementing evidence-based interventions that utilise the presence and interaction with dogs to facilitate healing and growth. With her extensive knowledge and experience, as an animal-assisted therapist she is able to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can experience the profound benefits of the human-animal bond.
Therapy Dogs Queensland is dedicated to providing animal assisted therapy services to individuals in need. We have a team of highly trained therapy dogs that have been bred from Assistance Dog lines and handlers who work together to bring comfort, support and healing to our clients.
We start by understanding the specific needs and goals of our clients. This may involve conducting assessments, interviews or consultations to determine how our therapy dogs can best support the clients' emotional, physical, or mental well-being.
Our dogs undergo rigorous training to ensure they are well-behaved, obedient, and able to handle various environments and situations. Our handlers also receive training to effectively manage and guide the therapy dogs during therapy sessions.
Once the client's needs are assessed, therapy sessions are scheduled. These sessions can take place in various settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, allied health clinics and corporate workplaces. During the sessions the therapy dogs and handlers work together to provide emotional support, companionship, and a sense of calm to our clients.
At Therapy Dogs Queensland, we tailor our interventions to meet the specific needs of each client. This may involve activities such as petting, grooming, playing, or simply being present with the therapy dog. These interactions can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promote socialisation, improve communication skills, and enhance overall well-being.
We often collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as therapists, counsellors, or medical practitioners. This collaboration ensures that the therapy dogs are integrated into the overall treatment plan and that the therapy sessions align with the client's therapeutic goals.
